Why Buy American-Made?

Posted July 1, 2021 by Janelle Pederson

As an USA-based manufacturer of hardwood flooring, it should come as no surprise that we support buying American-made products.  While patriotism on its own is reason enough to support American-made products, here are some additional reasons to support and drive it home:

BOOSTING THE AMERICAN ECONOMY

Backing American-made products is an essential role to boosting the national economy and supporting American jobs.

Buying local, regional or national products advances and strengthens the US economy.  The taxes generated from these purchases get redistributed back into the country and helps to lower trade and budget deficits.  As support for American-made products escalates, the demand for American made products increases.  Demand equals more jobs.  More people working means there’s more money to recirculate back into their local economies.  This boost in circulation is part of a chain reaction that leads to more investments in local economies, increased tax revenue, and growing job opportunities throughout the country.

A heightened demand for American-made products has a ripple effect.  For example:  In addition to the jobs we create for our 150+ employees, we also impact employment below and upstream.  Logging, sawmills, transportation/trucking, retail stores, installers are all impacted by our work.  In an indirect way, our business also supports the service-sector, such as construction companies, accountants, legal counsel, and energy providers.

In addition to taxes and deficits, purchasing domestically creates jobs for your family, friends and neighbors.  When jobs get outsourced and sent overseas, those jobs are lost.  They rarely find their way back.  When you buy made in the USA products, you help keep the American economy growing.

QUALITY PRODUCTS

USA products speak quality.  This reputation stems from the use of superior components, control over manufacturing, and the transparency of both product and manufacturing.

Safeguards and regulations at local, state and national levels in the US exist to protect the employee, consumers and the planet.   Many overseas manufacturing facilities lack these health, safety, environmental and worker regulations that are prevalent in the US.  Without having full disclosure of components used or the manufacturing conditions, the environment, consumers and their employees could be at risk.

Aacer’s products are manufactured using prized Northern Hardwoods.  75% of the lumber used in our operation is harvested within 175 mile radius of our plant.  The lumber we secure is always harvested from reputable and responsibly managed forests.

As a full-integrated manufacturer, we have complete control over our entire manufacturing process.  Kiln-drying, milling of both solid and engineered flooring, and prefinishing is done in-house.  Mill inspections are performed on a quarterly and annual basis.  The audits confirm that we’re adhering to established regulations and guidelines.  Manufacturing to specifications help to ensure that we are delivering consistent, quality products to the marketplace.

The quality of the flooring goes beyond the milling of the flooring.  It’s also critical that safe adhesives and finishes are used in the manufacturing process.  Aacer uses products that are safe for people, pets and our planet.  Our adhesive is formaldehyde-free and our finishes have zero HAP (hazardous air pollutants) and zero VOC (volatile organic compounds).

ENVIRONMENTAL

From manufacturing to transportation, American-made flooring has the environmental advantage over flooring produced and imported from overseas.

The journey for American-made flooring is drastically shorter than material made overseas.  Less miles travelled equates to a lower carbon footprint.  In addition to limiting pollution, American-made flooring is more environmentally friendly.  Health, safety and environmental regulations and safeguards exist to protect workers, consumers and the planet.  American manufacturers must comply to these laws at local, state and national levels.  The manufacturing process in the US is much cleaner and better for the environment compared to many other countries. The US protects our water, air and other natural resources.

Aacer does our part to minimize our footprint on the planet.  The majority of the lumber we use to make our flooring is responsibly harvested within 175 miles of our manufacturing facility.  Our manufacturing facility is zero waste.  The adhesive used to produce our engineered flooring is formaldehyde free.  The finish we use is VOC and HAP free.

American-made flooring has a lower carbon footprint and is more environmentally friendly than their overseas counterparts.

DELIVERY – INVENTORY

Flooring shipped from overseas travels many miles.  The transit time can be lengthy and unpredictable.  Overseas shipping includes many more variables which increases the odds for delays to occur, such as port delays or backlogs on container ships.  Purchasing from a domestic manufacturer, minimizes the risk of shipping delays and helps to make on-time deliveries.

In addition to lengthy travel times, distributors are oftentimes required to purchase full-containers of material.  This can tie-up valuable resources in unnecessary or unwanted inventory.

Aacer is a one-stop shop.  You can mix and match products to build a truck.  Your resources can be spread out over different products.  Outside of unforeseen weather delays, delivery times within the states are predictable.
